September newsletter: The Floor At The Arnolfini and a new project

My new zine and limited edition prints

September seems like a turning point

It’s the end of one big project and the start of a new one. That means the combined feelings of satisfaction and sadness at the completion of The Floor At The Arnolfini. And the excitement and mystery that one has at the commencement of a new creative adventure.

What I’ve been up to this month

“The Floor At The Arnolfini” is now back from the printers and it looks great! (I want to thank Tradeprint for sponsoring the printing). You can now purchase a copy for only £6 + P&P, but you can add prints as well from just £5.50. There are only two limited edition print sets left. Find out more here.

I have now started work on a new project, based on my local stream, the Bybrook. I am still at the play and exploration phase, which a very enjoyable place to be!

Finally, I had a new daily challenge this month: to make a new self-portrait every day. It stretched, but I enjoyed having to make something a bit different every day.

What I learned this month

I had some deadlines to keep to this month for the launch of my new zine. And I discovered just how much I can achieve when I am really up against it. I think deadlines can be very powerful once a project is underway.

What are my plans for next month?

This month I plan to focus on the new project. I am going to try and not to get too distracted and just concentrate on one thing. And I am going to set myself another daily challenge to produce one image each day.

What I’ve been writing about this month

My blog in September was titled “How will Artificial Intelligence Affect Visual Creatives?”. I wanted to write about this after having experimented with generating AI images for the first time. Not everyone agrees with what I have said and it has already led to some interesting discussions. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic. You can read the blog here.

What have I been reading this month

I received two excellent photo books this month. The first is Lineage by Ian Hill. It is published by Another Place Press. The power of this book is in how what appear to be relatively simple images and words combine to create something very beautiful and powerful. It should be no surprise to regular readers that I also purchased the latest Guy Dickinson book – Cymru.

What have I been watching this month

I can thoroughly recommend The Woman In The Wall – this is a slightly gothic mystery drama with some fantastic acting by Ruth Wilson. It is set in modern-day Ireland and the history of the Magdalene laundries.

Make sure you keep in touch

You can follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Mastodon. Twitter seems to be emptying rapidly, so I have also joined Bluesky social. It does seem to be a very good community. You can find me here. Please also e-mail directly: I really enjoy the conversations I have with those of you who have contacted me. I love to see image and projects that you are proud of. And do send me recommendations for reading, listening, exhibitions, blog articles and more!
